4.     PLOT                             :
Boori Ma is a feeble 64-year-old woman from Calcutta who is the stair-sweeper, or durwan, of an old brick building. In exchange for her services, the residents allow Boori Ma to sleep in front of the collapsible gates leading into the tenement. While sweeping, she narrates stories of her past: her daughter’s extravagant wedding, her servants, her estate and her riches. The residents of the brick building hear continuous contradictions in Boori’s storytelling, but her stories are seductive and compelling, so they let her contradictions rest. One family in particular takes a liking to Boori Ma, the Dalal’s. Mrs.
Dalal often gives Boori Ma food and takes care of her ailments. When Mr. Dalal gets promoted at work, he improves the brick building by installing a sink in the stairwell and a sink in his home. The Dalal’s continue to improve their home and even go away on a trip to Simla for ten days and promise to bring back Boori Ma a sheep’s hair blanket. While the Dalal’s are away, the other residents become obsessed with making their own improvement to the building. Boori Ma even spends her life savings on special treats while circling around the neighborhood. However, while Boori Ma is out one afternoon, the sink in the stairwell is stolen. The residents accuse Boori Ma of informing the robbers and in negligence for her job. When Boori Ma protests, the residents continue to accuse her because of all her previous inconsistent stories. The residents' obsession with materializing the building dimmed their focus on the remaining members of their community, like Boori Ma. The short story concludes as the residents throw out Boori Ma’s belongings and begin a search for a “real durwan.” Note that "durwan" means housekeeper in both Bengali and Hindi.
5.     SETTING          : In the old building
6.     ANALYSIS     : The object of psychoanalytic literary criticism, at its very simplest, can be the psychoanalysis of the author or of a particularly interesting character in a given work. Critics may view the fictional characters as a psychological case study, attempting to identify such Freudian concepts as Oedipus complex, penis envy, Freudian slips, Id, ego and superego and so on, and demonstrate how they influenced the thoughts and behaviors of fictional characters. And this is short story about  psychoanalysis.

·           Jason – he is men who have the character and disposition of hard , He mysterious friend and spend the rest of his life to keep in the J.P Townsend’s massive tomb old Victorian.
4.     PLOT :
"I don’t care who you tell, Sheila.  What could anyone do to me?"
When she said nothing, he continued. "Let me tell you a little story, since you’re such a big history buff, and I know how much you've been aching to know more about my novel. J. T. Townsend was a greedy man, just like you thought. He was very greedy, even unto death. Nor did he take favor to the fact that he was going to die just like all the other poor mortal souls on earth. You see, Townsend always thought himself better, more deserving of life than the other fools she shared the world’s oxygen with."
When he grasped Shelia, lifting her up into his arms, she screamed, which didn't deter him from continuing his story. "He was certain that there had to be a way out of it…a way to cheat death. He was a businessman. He knew all about bartering and trading. If there was some way he could make his immortality profitable to the God’s who control things above, he’d have it made."
He put Shelia in the coffin.  Suddenly, she was too terrified to fight. "He, or rather I, found the deal I wanted in Egypt. All the money I’d sunk into countless digging in the Egyptian soil years earlier paid off. They had a lesser known God…a God forgotten by man. Through some scrolls and that little statue over there," he pointed at the statue of a half-man half-cat looking creature, "I conjured up the God and made a deal just as I’d always conducted business deals."
She closed her eyes, hoping that he was just joking, hoping that he'd come to his senses and let her go.  "I could live forever as long as I gave him fresh souls. It’s simple really, all I have to do is place someone in this coffin and the God slowly takes the soul of the person as the body deteriorates. In return, I get to live how ever many years that person had left. It can be such a hassle having to return to this foul little city every so often to do this grim deed, but I fear, it’s necessary if I want to keep breathing. But don’t take it personally, Shelia. It’s just business after all. And don’t worry. Death will come quickly. I promise."
He closed the coffin lid and she heard him walk away. Her screams rent the air but no one heard them. No one came to give her aid…and slowly she felt herself drifting away.
