1.     Summarize each scene of the play

Write an essay, thematic analogies exploring the relationship between :

-         Husband and wife

-         Master and servant

-         Tortured and victim

2.     Quote some evidences to support your answer !

Character analysis on :

-         Orlando : as a man and as a husband

-         Leticia    : analyze her character through the feminism

-         Nena      : as a girl and as a tortured girl

-         Olimpia  : why does she join in the play? ( why does the author “ create “ olimpia in the play ? )

-         Provide evidences by quoting from the play.

Answer

1.     Scene 1

Orlando 33 years old, an army lieutenant was in the middle of hesitation about his life. He decide to take a move, make a changes, focused on his job and takes every opportunity which comes. He make target for two years later in the military or he will leave military.

Scene 2

Leticia is Orlando wife. Orlando is now a l lieutenant commander. He, his friend Alejo and his wife Leticia were in the dining room. They were in the middle of disagreement. Orlando and Leticia were fighting and complaining about each other, about his jobs, about their marriage, their different point of view about love. Alejo was a mediator for them. Leticia felt that husband didn’t love her. In Orlando side, he thinks that her wife is very disturbing, noisy and lavish.

Scene 3

In the warehouse, Orlando was enter while holding a destitute, wretched little girl. She was Nena. Nena looks very frightened. Nena tried to run away all over the room, but Orlando can catch her, and doing sexual harassment to her.

Scene 4

Leticia was sit on the left of dining table in the diningroom, and her servant Olimpia was wiping the table. She ask Leticia to bought her a steam pot to help her cook faster ( with some argument, but finally Leticia grant her wish ). Leticia was very picky and troublesome about food, she keep complaining and ask for many kind of food.

Scene 5

The werehouse looks messed and wretched, the furniture weren’t in the right places. Orlando enter the room, looking for Nena, afraid if she was escape.

Scene 6

Leticia was in the middle of a call with her friend Mona, they planned to meet up but since Orlando was still in the houses, they postponed it. Alejo stayed for dinner. Leticia , Orlando and Alejo were talking about someone they knew being murdered, it bring some fear to them. The topics continue into politic, their country, and a guy called Fello.

Scene 7

In the werehouse , Orlando was doing some sexual harassment to Nena. Nena eats voraciously, looks like she was hungry.

Scene 8

This part is tell about the funny behavior of Olimpia who sit in the diningroom table, holds a book pretend that she can read.

Scene 9

Leticia was  busy doing something with her suitcase, looks like she will go traveling somewhere.  

Scene 10

Nena , Orlando, Olimpia and Alejo were in the room. There was a man corpse lied down in the room. the man was died when Orlando try to scared him. They think that this is a trap, set for trapped Orlando. Orlando keep telling that this is not his fault, he seemed afraid and very depressed because of this.

Scene 11

Nena , Alejo and Olimpia were on the basement, Orlando comes with bad mood. He had some argument with the Silly Olimpia.

Scene 12

Leticia was talking in the phone with her friend Mona. She talking about Orlando, looks like she already knew Orlando was making love with someone else.

Scene 13

Orlando was in the basement and he looks very exhausted. Nena was curled in the floor. Looks like they were having sex a moment ago. Orlando tried to flattering Nena, he keeps saying some sweet words to clamed down Nena.

Scene 14

In the dining room, and looks Leticia was already know about Orlando affair. Leticia looks sad , depressed, feels betrayed by her husband, in other way she feels to this little poor girl. She ask Orlando if Mona stay in her house and company her.

Scene 15

Olimpia and Nena were in the dinning table. They talking about Nena’s past. Nena was an orphan, she lived an sleep in the street with her grandpa, the only family she had. It was first time she meets Orlando who promised to help her finding her grandpa. 

Scene 16

Leticia is the middle of phone with Mona. Talking about Orlando and his story, a boy who raised by her, a young and careless boy who love Leticia, the first girl in her life. Orlando was changed after he’s  join the army, he becomes harsh, violent, bad tempered. He can do anything money, power and position in army, include torture and killing people.

Scene 17

Tells about a funny, silly and unimportant conversation of Olimpia and Nena.

Scene 18

Orlando was sleeping on the diningroom table. the telephone rings. Leticia talking why Orlando sleeping on the diningroom table. But Orlando goes to the floor on his knees and staggers to the telephone, talking with someone.

Scene 19

Nena , Orlando, Olimpia , Leticia were sit in the living room. Orlando force Leticia to confess that she has another lover. Orlando use violence, he even grab and pulled her hair. Leticia confess that she had an affair with Alberto, a lieutenant. Orlando going more harsh, Leticia takes a gun in the drawer and shoot Orlando. Orlando falls dead. Leticia put the revolver in Nena’s hand, and say “please”. Nena look into the gun. The story ends like that.

a.     The relationship between husband and wife. But this relationship not in good harmonic. Orlando didn’t love Leticia. ( I will marry women in high circle , Leticia must not be an obstacles, Scene 1 ).

(Leticia : He doesn’t love me. Thought he loved me.. , Scene 2 ).

They are not faithful. Orlando had an affair and sleep with Nena ( Scene 3, Scene 13 ) Leticia had an affair with Orlando’s friend Albertico ( Scene 19 ).

b.     The relationship between Leticia as a master and Olimpia as a servant is not run well to. They often fight each other. We can see Scene 4, they were arguing about steam pot, and about food. Olimpia didn’t respect Leticia.

c.      Nena as a victim got an awful tortured. She often got hit, prisoned in small room and got a sexual harassment from Orlando. She cant do anything besides accept that suffering.

The Character

Orlando was a violent and harsh personal who seek for power and domininace. His  ambition to get promotion in the Military. He marry  Leticia to get power ( Scene 1 ). He wasn’t  a good an faithful husband, he never listened and care with his wife ( Scene 19 ). He sleep with Nena.

Leticia is different women , she power full ( Scene 2 ). She audacious , she talk about Orlando ( Scene 6)

Nena is a poor girl who must face a lot suffering in her life. She lived in the street with grandpa. She like sleep with Orlando.

Olimpia was the funny character who can make us laught and lighten up the story. Sometimes doing to stupid and talk stupid. The character Olimpia was for neutralized the heavy and complicated story with a joke and anything for funny, so this story not bored.
